This is actually THE bottle that is the pictured headliner on this very site. I snapped that picture in June 2014 when visiting Jean-Baptiste Geoffroy, his lovely wife and tribe of spirited daughters in Aÿ.
The cork used is a traditional one that is fastened down with a brass clip – and is a little challenging to remove, I might add.
This is Jean-Baptiste Geoffroy’s still red wine produced from premier cru rated vineyards of Pinot Noir grapes in Cumières. The vineyards are located to the south of Hautvilliers and on the right bank of the Marne River (facing southeast) .
An elegant, translucent garnet with aromas of cherry and oak, the wine shows a dry palate with medium plus acidity.
Flavours include ripe, red cherry, strawberry juice, light cedar strips and a dried tobacco .
Unfined and unfiltered with a lovely level of alcohol balanced delicately between tannin and fruit, this is WSET Very Good.
