Young and refreshing – just as promised in Portuguese on the label! This is cheap and cheerful at its best.
Vinho Verde literally means ‘green wine’ but refers to the fact that it’s supposed to be enjoyed young. Make sure the bottle you purchase is labeled with the year prior to the one you’re drinking it in.
White wine made from Treixadura, Loureiro, Azal and Arinto grapes, it is the lightest shade of straw with a light spritz. The nose is delicate with lemon and almonds.
The palate is softly citrus with white peach and apricot and there’s a quick finish on this WSET Good wine – a classic for seafood and summer.
We drank it with mussels marinière and fresh spot prawns sautéd in garlic and shallots. Somehow the bottle ended up being recycled prior to photographing, so this is courtesy of the Casal Garcia website.
